As a way to show students how appreciated they are and to provide them with an understanding about what services are available to them on campus, the University is planning more than 50 events and activities for its first-ever Student Appreciation Week, beginning on Monday, October 17.
Highlights of next week’s activities include a pizza social with President Jonathan Koppell and the Volunteer Center, where students who participate in relief efforts for those affected by Hurricane Ian can share a slice of pizza and conversation with the president, and a barbecue in Parking Lot 60 hosted by University Facilities.
“At Montclair State University, we always pride ourselves in putting students first,” says Vice President for Enrollment Management Wendy Lin-Cook. “We have many offices and services to ensure our students have a successful academic career and enjoy their campus life. Our first student appreciation week is designed for our students to get to know us better so they can take better advantage of what is available to them.”
Red Hawk Central Director Tara Zurlo says other planned activities and events include fun DIY crafts, games and karaoke nights, guest speakers, free food and even professional development such as free LinkedIn headshots and resume building. In addition, the Study Abroad Office invites students to come in from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. every day to talk to staff and learn about opportunities to study abroad.
Zurlo hopes that students will use this experience to become more familiar with the University and all it has to offer.
“I do hope that there are some impactful moments of feeling truly appreciated,” says Zurlo. “We want to really bring it to them in a way that they can feel it and understand that they belong here.”
