Using a diverse, interdisciplinary approach, the 21-credit undergraduate minor in International Studies encourages students to examine the complex and subtle interrelationships – social, economic, political, and cultural – that exist among nations in our increasingly interdependent global system. The core curriculum, taught by various experts in their fields, broadens one’s knowledge of people of the world, international events, problems and strategies for change, and the socioeconomic and sociopolitical background to global affairs.
A combination of global issues-oriented courses, an emphasis on area studies, as well as solid competence in a language, provides a splendid foundation for careers in which an understanding of international affairs is of importance. Besides being an excellent complement to majors in the social sciences, humanities, business, and arts, the minor also provides a good groundwork for graduate work in the field.
