In 1969, the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders (CSND) was founded as the Department of Speech Pathology and Audiology. Its name was later updated to reflect a broader spectrum of studies. Prior to 1969, these programs were housed within the Speech and Theatre Department, with roots tracing back to the 1950s.

Since then, the Department has evolved to offer specialized programs aimed at assisting professionals and individuals with speech, language, and hearing disorders. These programs emphasize both fundamental and advanced professional training, with a strong focus on the theoretical and research aspects of clinical intervention. Currently, the Department offers a Speech-Language Pathology (MA), a clinical doctoral degree in Audiology (AuD) and a minor in Speech Language Pathology and Audiology.
