The Educational Leadership program at Montclair State University is committed to preparing outstanding and dedicated school leaders for the State of New Jersey. This practice-driven program will guide aspiring leaders to develop principles of moral leadership and cultivate a democratic vision for schools and learning. With both a strong theoretical foundation and a practical structure framed around the principles of adult learning theory, the program will provide students an excellent academic background and professional preparation to become accomplished school leaders. Our diverse group of faculty engages in scholarly research and holds local, state and national leadership positions.

Graduate Programs
MA in Educational Leadership
In the NCATE-accredited MA in Educational Leadership program, students may obtain a standard supervisor certificate as well as principal and school administrator certificates of eligibility. For students holding a master’s degree, the program offers advanced certifications in the areas of supervisor, principal, and director of school counseling services.
MA in Educational Leadership, Higher Education Leadership Concentration
The Master of Arts in Educational Leadership with a concentration in Higher Education Leadership provides graduate students with the knowledge and skills needed to take on leadership positions with higher education organizations in student affairs, academic affairs, and administration across all functional areas of colleges and universities.
Director of School Counseling Services, Educational Services Certificate Program
The Director of School Counseling Services Certification authorizes the holder to serve as a director, administrator, or supervisor of school counseling services, including the supervision of educational activities in areas related to and within the counseling program in grades preschool through 12.
Principal, Administrative Services Certification
This program of study fulfills the education requirement for students who wish to obtain a state of NJ Principal Certificate of Eligibility for individuals who already hold a master’s or doctoral degree, a standard teaching certification, or educational services certificate, have completed five years of teaching or educational services experience, and wish to become a principal, vice principal, director, or assistant superintendent.
Supervisor, Administrative Services Certification
This program of study fulfills the New Jersey Department of Education academic requirements for the standard administrative certificate with a supervisor endorsement for those students who hold a master’s degree and three years of teaching or educational service experience and wish to become a supervisor of instruction, athletic director (but do not hold a principal’s endorsement), or an assistant superintendent in charge of curriculum and/or instruction in public schools.
